Rankle & Reynolds ‘Serpentine’
The recently opened DoubleTree by Hilton London - Hyde Park is embracing its leafy location by adding locally-inspired art to its design portfolio, with a specially commissioned painting by acclaimed British artists, Rankle & Reynolds. Following a £10 million refurbishment, the hotel is proud to welcome exclusive oil and acrylic on canvas, Serpentine 2013, as the finishing touch to its new-look lobby.
Featuring a montage of images drawn from the surrounds of nearby Hyde Park, the statement floor to ceiling painting challenges the conventionally nostalgic perception of the park as a formal landscape of historical significance. The work focuses on overlaid vistas along the Serpentine lakeside and is designed to evoke a source of natural energy within the contemporary urban environment.
Since first collaborating in 2008, Rankle & Reynolds have received critical and public acclaim though a series of high profile international exhibitions. Serpentine 2013 is just the second major commission by the pair available on public view in London the first being an eight meter illuminated panel installed as part of the décor at the nightclub of The Sloane Square Hotel.
